A Samurai Can Be Black, The Powerful Message Of Yasuke

The animation of MAPPA in Yasuke is impressive, and as the series progresses, the rhythm and creativity of the battles become more vivid. This is especially true of the background design, which veers sharply from the mundane forests and villages of early 17th-century Japan to streaky cloudscapes in astral layers. The sequence in which Yasuke and Saki ascend to the Daimyo Throne Room is particularly striking, with the castle's stairs winding up through a vast dark chasm, thousands of candles lit on the railings and cobwebs strewn across the nest. It's a beautiful scene, made all the more impressive by the dramatic visuals of the ending itself.

Aesthetically, Yasuke looks like a character from an anime sci-fi epic, and Mappa rendered the show in the vibrant colors and 3D animation you'll find in shows like Attack on Titan. When the landscape footage comes to the screen, you can almost see grains of dirt on the fields the villagers are ploughing, and the 3D visualization immerses you in the room where the protagonists travel. The show's soundtrack, composed by show executive producer Flying Lotus, features atmospheric strings and serene percussion that complement the lush forests and tranquil rivers the characters traverse. For busier scenes, it slides into silent electronics, a futuristic soundscape for a feudal sci-fi adventure.

The art style is great, and the fight scenes are out of this world with a great soundtrack. It's just super annoying when they introduce Yasuke to fight a minute before and then fight as an ally and then kill their characters expecting the audience to take care of them when they're not bothering, the character development of these characters is the same as "hey, I'm a bad guy, but Now I am a good person." It would be even more sacred if the show only focused on Yasuke, but the little girl and all the supernatural powers and mechanics and magic mean nothing. Yasuke was just used to marketing the show and being the vehicle for the plot, so everyone on the show became irrelevant.

Yasuke In Cultural Aspect Of Japan

Yasuke is a fascinating series that represents the latest touchstone in the cross-cultural evolution of Japanese anime as an art form, and a memorable way to explore unusual footnotes in Japanese history. From Yasuke's perspective, there's a lot to uncover in this universe, and if this season's finale is any indication, it's far from the last Black Samurai we'll see.

"Yasuke" is rumored to be a show about the first Darth Vader in history. It is more Steven Segal for me. It would be great if the Netflix adult animated series stuck with this idea. Unfortunately, it didn't take long for the six-episode series to lose its compelling protagonist in favor of increasingly outlandish fantasy elements.

Making a show with a character as mysterious and intriguing as Yasuke is a tall order, so the writers and directors can be forgiven for wanting to combine everything they've grown up with into one show. At its worst, Yasuke feels like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be distracted by something that already makes it unique. At its best, Yasuke is an anime that pushes the envelope in terms of the type of story it's drawn and told in animation. Even if we don't have more episodes or any other stories about Darth Vader, Yasuke will repeatedly argue about his existence and more episodes and stories like this.

Anime Recommendation

Visually, however, Yasuke is a beautiful anime. The neon colors complement the more colorful and vibrant surroundings of the village and other outdoor areas. There's a real artistic desire to show off the talent working on this, and that's sure to pay off; Yasuke is certainly a feast for the eyes.

Well, I think the show is okay. It's made by Mappa, so the animation is pretty good. I think it's worth watching, but definitely not going to be your favorite show. While it handles some tough issues well, yes it's only 6 episodes so I'd say give it a try.
