The Journey Of The Stellar Traveler Is Slowly Going To A Halt

Emerging from the ashes 16-bit themed games are really going toe to toe with their more high-definition cousins. With a much larger population of games that would really want realistic graphics more and more game developers are sticking to the “blocky” themed games which I don’t think is going away anytime soon.

16-bit themed games are not zombies from a dead era, they are sleepers. They are like phoenix from the ashes; a new one will be reborn time and time again. In fact the  "retro gaming market" was valued at approximately $3.8 billion globally in 2025 and is projected to more than double by 2033.

That is why, more and more games like Stellar Traveler are like mushrooms taking the mobile platform like a storm. That is why for our review on this post, is Stellar Traveler by NebulaJoy.

At the very core of it there are a lot of red flags surrounding Stellar Traveler but I installed it anyway. Created by NebulaJoy based in Beijing China, published by Yunchang Technology.

They are popular on various adaptations of famous IPs, probably banking on the fact that Devil May Cry and Mega Man can market themselves by being as they are.

The very reason I tried this game is because of its theme. I would always go back to the day I finally finished Valkyrie Profile. Unlike Valkyrie Profile, I was able to connect to every person Valkyrie sent to Valhalla, however with Stellar Traveller, I was not able to connect to the very person I was controlling.

I was mesmerized with the detail of the characters during combat, but I was not able to follow along with the story itself. The dialogue is not big enough to be able to read.

Given my age.

The game is not for those little screens, you need a tablet literally. Given with at least 3 weeks on my phone, the game is pretty much annoying already.

For a “lore-joyer” like me, I wanted depth on the storyline in every game I play.

Well not every one of them.

Playing an RPG without understanding what is your “role” in the world you are living in, is like living without a purpose and that goes with your joy playing the game. Due to those reasons, the playability goes down to 1-star.

Again, I jumped right into the game only because of the theme. The amazing graphics really stunned me. The magical effects and really amazing highlights when the character is doing their special attack is fantastic. These things still give me joy! However since you collect other heroes you get to be curious what their attacks are or at least put support in your party.

Even if they say your best defense is your offense, that is true if the other skills of your DPS character are buff. I tried a few supports and the animation just sucks though you will be mesmerized again with the area of effect of those supports but in the end, the special attack is not so special after all.

With that the rating of their concept and design based on our criteria would go to 3-stars.

I will still play the game at some point this week to see if I can pull a demon out of it, but after that, removal will only be the end of it.

It would be sick if you also understood where you are in the story but I guess I can say I am already in level 181 of the game yet?

The revolution of this kind of games is so amazing, there are a lot of revivals of other famous IPs in this theme so it really serves my kind of gamer. Games bring me relaxation after a day or a week doing things you need to survive, and these are the things that keep me recharged. However without a good story, a game will be just a bunch of swords, helms and hides.
