The Death And Resurrection Of SoulWorker - A Lion's Legacy

There are a lot of hidden Free-To-Play gems in Steam that can be easily overlooked. From Battle Arenas, to Mech and to some old titles that either they do not have enough marketing team to really feature this hidden gem. I tried this title on Steam called Soulworker. It is already an old title, created by Lion Games.

This is an Action RPG where you are in a world and you can freely control the action of your character. Though this is not an open-world and they might need to open their doors to the possibility of upgrading their game to Open-World RPG as the new Hoyoverse RPG is just in the doorstep.

Soulworker was released in April of 2016 developed by Lion Games. It was first released in Japan then it was later on released in Korea with Smilegate publishing the game in 2017. The next year 2018 the game was published by GameForge for the English Version.

I was not able to experience the Gameforge version of the game, but a lot of positive reviews referring to that previous English Version of the game, receiving a thumbs down on the Steam game. The game has been around and Soulworker is still cool from the game style and the intensity of the game animations. This is not the actual game review, this is more of first impressions of the game. We will confirm further if the Steam game can stand on its own or they should have to step up to have better player turnout. The Gameforge published version of the game closed its doors April 2021. Then Lion Games launched an English Server that is shared with the Taiwanese server that is only available on Steam.

We will have nothing to compare it with by now since the Gameforge version is already closed. Not sure what is in store for us in the Gameforge, but we will review whatever on that Steam version.

The first impression of the game is really cool. Though it seems there is a lot to take in, it is an amazing experience so far. I just hope there are a lot more of this in between quests or if there are significant chapters unlocked in the game. The cinematics in between hypes the player to move further in the game. I will give you a perfect example, Diablo II. The game has cinematics in between chapters and that approach carried the game until now. To be honest Warcraft really revolutionized the strategy game with the campaigns that have cinematics. It pictures out what is really happening in the game by zooming it through the cinematics. You will never appreciate how the Frostmourne transforms the pure power of the Paladin in the game. You will not know the significance of the wanderer or Deckard Cain in Diablo if it is not magnified by cinematics. Cut scenes are a very important marketing strategy to really play the game by the players with the basis of a good story. Genshin Impact also used a lot of cinematics or cut scenes in between to appreciate more the characteristics of the different characters in the game, and not the monotonous sound of Paimon we hear all the time.

The story where Soulworker is based is pretty simple. Though I know these anime rpgs have a lot of plot twists I hope the developers have a lot in store for us players in the actual gameplay. When you reach the safe spot in the game, it seems the places or dungeons are segregated in districts. Though at this point it is hard to figure out where you should go next, you should ask help on the quests section of the game itself to better guide you where you will go next. Pretty much common to me, this auto-pilot guide is a red flag to me already. I am not sure about you guys, but let me know in the comments what you think about this game. I want to play it further and drop the review asap.
