To This Day - Wolverine's Rage Was Released in GBC

It is still Retro Gaming All Month here in our blog, and to this day, we celebrate the release of Wolverine’s Rage in Game Boy Color. As old as Logan, we will look back at a game of slashing, jumping and jumping, slashing, slicing and dicing, jumping, am I repeating myself?

Wolverine has been the crowd’s favorite in terms of storyline. He has the most rich story. This is the curse of having a long life, so many stories to tell. There are indeed a lot of story arcs that involve Wolverine. One of which is his involvement with Yuriko Oyama. If you think Yuriko is one of the love interests, not exactly, originally they are not because Yuriko is a Cyborg, however in the series in the memory of Wolverine she is. In the game you can also see Sabretooth, his true arch-nemesis for the longest time.

Wolverine’s Rage is about his hunt for Lady Deathstrike that found a way to melt his Adamantium of claws. The game will start with you as Wolverine tracking Deathstryke and stopping her in her dubious ways. You probably know now who your last Boss Fight is. Having said that you need to first kill thugs, ninjas and cyborgs or androids.

It is basically a RPG game where you play Wolverine and get to Lady Deathstrike. The game has 20 levels grouped into chapters of five. This was released 2001 in Game Boy Color, and you know how the RPG games worked in that era. You need to kill every single foe that is in your way. This is a side scrolling game but this is not isometric like Streets of Rage or anything, it is like Megaman with claws. Though Megaman is much better to be honest. I am literally here for Wolverine that’s it.

Much interest goes to invest in the colorful life of Wolverine, making it a full blown game, the game is very repetitive that you even have to beat the same boss several times. This very obvious one and a lot more in the transition of stages of the game, reflected the not so proud sales of Wolverine’s Rage. If people have streamed the game for quite some time could make a difference, no? Kidding aside, this simple game still shaved a few bucks to the undying support of Wolverine fans and ignore the puerile gameplay of slashing and jumping. They got a fan in me, I still dig hack and slash games, close combat games give me the freedom on when to attack or not.

Hit or not this game, Wolverine is Wolverine, we can not change that. He is still the most badass hero out there. Looking back at the game, with all of the enhancement of technology, and the fair warning of the game being bad, I would probably play it. I would still invest time to stop Lady Deathstrike.
