Anime Review: The Future City of Blame! Movie

It is really amazing how Anime tells a story to its avid fans. Though the futuristic plot was never my cup of tea, Blame! Got me on the summary of the plot. Wherein humans and technology are integrated resulting in automated cities. Which as a civilization we are walking in that direction, integration, and automation.

This is like an “Ultron” story except instead of just 1 robot, the whole city is turned against humans.

Story

The story development really evolves when they meet Cibo. The scientist really knows a lot when the city is still controlled by humans. The story begins to make sense when they meet Cibo. Since up to the point the kids brought Killy in the shelter there is a lot of grey area to the conversation of Pops and Killy, at that point the idea of the old city was introduced and it was confirmed when they met the scientist.

It is an action-packed movie where you can relate to some issues of society. Though you really need not blink to follow. The only open-ended to me is if Killy is still alive.

There is a hope that he is still alive but I hope it would be revealed if there is still another installment of the film.

Characters - Background - Graphics

The characters are nice, they complement one another. For me, there is no real main character here because even if Killy is really that strong me the characters that stand out are Zuru and Sutezo. As the film progresses both proven to be loyal to the group and to their friends.

The background and graphics are amazing, a little bit dark but it is understandable, they are in a growing city anyway. There are scenes that sometimes the camera is being shot behind a wall which makes it more appealing and exciting. I notice a lot of detail to it, which I love the rustic touch to it. The robotic part of it, the consoles in the eye it is really futuristic which I think is already common to Japanese Anime but still amazing how the detail comes to light.

Animation

I only have one word for this, Safeguard. Amazing animation on the movement of the safeguard also to Sana-kan amazing transformation. The exquisite battle sequence with Killy. You really can feel the heartlessness of Sana-kan (can you really feel the heartlessnes?). It is just an awesome turn of events when Tae became Sana-kan and the violet beam of the gun so majestic. Though the scene when Sana-kan kills the Electro-Fishers is really devastating. It is like, “now where’s Killy?”.

Final Thoughts

I did not read the manga of Blame! This was the first time I watched the film and I was entertained and was overwhelmed at some point. The essence of what the film tries to convey is beyond the status of the characters in the movie. It is not a survival game, it is loyalty and the hard truth that sometimes the people that supposedly protect us is the one that is killing all of us.
